Delameta.com – In everyday life, many people use toll roads as a means of transportation to reach their destinations. Toll roads are lanes that were built to accelerate mobility with faster travel distances than regular routes.
However, as toll road users, we have to pay tolls as a fee for using the road.
In Indonesia, the system on this toll road has undergone many significant changes over the past few years, from a manual system to an electronic system.
Type of Toll Payment System
Electronic Payment System
Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system whose payment system uses electronic technology to read information from electronic cards installed on vehicles.
This toll electronic system has been introduced in Indonesia since a few years ago and is increasingly being used.
There are several types of electronic cards used on the legal electronic toll payment namely Multi Trip Card (KMT), Single Card (KT), and also E-Toll Card.
MLFF (Multi Lane Free Flow) is the process of toll payment without stopping, it means that the toll road user does not have to stop the vehicle at the toll gate.
On Multi Trip Card (KMT), the driver can buy tickets for multiple trips, while on Single Card (KT), the driver can only buy one ticket for one trip. E-Toll Card is a card that can only be used to pay tolls.
One of the advantages of electronic toll payments is the ease and speed of transaction. The driver does not need to stop at the toll gate to pay the toll, simply pass through the special lines provided and the electronic card will be read by the machine on the line.
In this electronic toll system each vehicle will be paired with a rechargeable electronic card.
In addition, the driver can monitor the balance and transaction history through the application or website provided by the company of the electronic toll payment system service provider.
Another advantage of electronic systems is security. In this system, the driver does not need to carry in cash
Manual Payment System
Manual Toll Payment is a payment system that uses cash to pay tolls rate. In this system, the driver must stop at the toll gate and give cash to the toll officer to pay the cost of using the toll road.
This system is very common in the early development of toll roads in Indonesia.
However, this system has quite a lot of weaknesses. One of the disadvantages is the congestion that occurs at toll gates, especially during holidays or during busy times.
In addition, this manual system also takes a long time, as each driver must stop and give cash to the toll officer.
